Let’s Talk about s**t

Let’s face it, most people at some time or another have experienced difficulty going for a number 2 . It’s reported that an estimated 2 million people in the UK alone suffer from chronic constipation.

But due to the personal nature of the topic and our shyness in discussing it, there is low awareness of how common chronic constipation is and the effective treatments for it.

Constipation is a condition in which there is difficulty in emptying the bowels, usually described as having less than 3 bowel movements a week, associated with hardened faeces and a high level of constraint or restriction.

(Top Tips to help relieve constipation naturally)

1, Drink more water (Minimum 8-10 glasses per day, this will vary depending on exercise, heat etc)

2, Eat more fibre (add in milled flax seed on your porridge to further aid regular bowel movements)

3, Exercise more

4, Reduce stress

5, Load your plate with veggies and add in dried fruit such as prunes.

A diet high in fibre helps add bulk and weight to stools, soften them and stimulate bowel movements. However, in some people, high fibre diets can make constipation worse, so it’s important to talk to your healthcare provider if symptoms don’t improve after making a few healthier lifestyle changes!
